Meet my littles: Jadon + Sophie
They are my heartbeat, my soul, the ones that make me laugh and the ones that can get me
quite frustrated. They give me laughter in the morning and sweet snuggles at night. The best
part is I have the honor of being called their mother or mama (which is what I hear echoing
throughout my house as pitter patters follow).
Motherhood has always been something I saw in my life, but I always knew I would be a
working mom – not by obligation, but by choice. I love working hard and seeing a project
transform through the idea stage to launch. I also love witnessing passion projects become
sustainable enough to be a full-time initiative. This is a bit of my story.
Being the founder of Imani Collective is a blessing, but it also comes with a lot of late night, as
well as consistent work, vision and drive. It takes many sacrifices and so, that is when I am
approached by many people (on a daily basis) asking:
- How do you do it?
- How do you do what you do?
- How do you balance being a mother and the founder of a growing social enterprise?”
My answer is simple: priorities.
You have to understand what your values are and what truly matters to you. Every year, every
month, every week and every day – I set intentional time to check in with myself. To see if I feel
“balanced” in this season. Are you checking in? When was the last time you asked yourself –
how you were actually feeling? Are you finding joy in your day to day?
Yes. I am a mother. Yes. I am a wife.
And Yes. I work and guess what? – you can find a way to make it blissfully work for you.
You just have to remember that sometimes you might have to say no to an opportunity
because your family needs you first or you might have to have dad step in for some story times
because you have a few late night calls.
Find what works for you. There is no perfect equation.
The only “perfect” solution is that you are finding joy, daily.
